Kwesi Nyantakyi urges Black Stars to consider Hudson-Odoi, Nketiah for 2026 World Cup

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has called on the Black Stars’ technical team to put sentiment aside and consider the inclusion of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Both England-born forwards have remained part of the national debate since Ghana secured qualification for the tournament, despite previous attempts by the GFA to convince them to switch international allegiance failing to materialise.

“The Black Stars is open to every Ghanaian who is eligible to play,” Nyantakyi told JoyNews.
“Some people become sentimental and emotional  ‘oh, this guy dumped Ghana’ — but I am interested in people who can help us achieve results.

“People like Eddie Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi, let’s take out our emotions and give them the chance, if the coach thinks they can compete favourably,” he added.

Nketiah, who has one senior cap for England, has scored four goals across all competitions this season for Crystal Palace. Hudson-Odoi, a three-time England international, has found the net three times for Nottingham Forest this campaign.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L of the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Panama, England and Croatia. Head coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his final squad on June 1.
