Hearts of Oak have received a major boost ahead of their crucial clash against Medeama SC, with coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani confirming that first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is closing in on a return from injury.
Asare, sidelined since November after sustaining an injury in an international friendly against South Korea, has missed seven Ghana Premier League matches. But the Black Stars goalkeeper has been making steady progress, resuming full training with the squad in mid-December.
“Benjamin trained throughout last week. So he is seventy per cent ready,” Dramani revealed in a post-match press conference on Saturday. “He played 30 minutes of our friendly game last week.”
The coach stressed a cautious reintegration to ensure Asare returns fully fit:
“We are trying to integrate him gradually so that he comes back. He went out with a force majeure, so that influences how we reintegrate him into the squad.”
If all goes well in training, Asare could be included in the squad for the high-stakes away game against Medeama on Friday, a fixture that sees Hearts of Oak chasing vital points to move up the table.
Currently sitting fifth with 28 points, just two behind second-placed Medeama, the Phobians’ title ambitions get a timely lift with their key goalkeeper nearing a return.
