Bechem United assistant coach Mallam Yahaya has insisted that his side did not deserve the heavy 6-0 defeat suffered against Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League Week 16 clash.
The Hunters were thrashed by the Porcupine Warriors on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, in a match that produced a scoreline far harsher than the contest itself.
Despite conceding six goals, Bechem United were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, striking the goalpost five times during the encounter.
Speaking after the match, Mallam Yahaya admitted his team fell short on the day but maintained that the margin of defeat did not reflect their performance.
“I don’t think the scoreline is a reflection of how the team played. It was a bad day for us, especially in defence,” he said.
“Kotoko played on the counter, took their chances, and punished us.”
He added that a drop in mentality and motivation proved costly against a highly driven Kotoko side.
“We played very good football, but they scored because our mentality was down. You could see Kotoko’s motivation was better than ours.”
The emphatic loss leaves Bechem United deep in the relegation fight as they prepare for the second round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, scheduled to begin in January 2026.
