Sudan Books Round of 16 Spot at AFCON 2025

Kwesi Appiah’s Sudanese side, the Falcons of Jediane, have secured their place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Sudan qualified as one of the best third-placed teams after Morocco’s vital 3-0 win over Zambia confirmed their progression, even before their final group game.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for a team that started the tournament at the bottom of their group. Their 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea only Sudan’s second-ever AFCON win since 1970 and first since 2012  proved decisive.

Coach Appiah’s achievement adds another historic milestone to his career, guiding Sudan to the knockout stage against Africa’s elite.

The Falcons still face Burkina Faso in their final group game on Wednesday at the Mohammed V Stadium, but with qualification already secured, they can approach the match with confidence and less pressure.

Sudan now joins Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and Ivory Coast in the Round of 16, ready to challenge the continent’s best.
