South African head coach Hugo Broos has slammed the organization of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, citing a lack of atmosphere and poor management.
“I don’t feel the same atmosphere as in Gabon or Côte d’Ivoire,” Broos said, expressing his disappointment with the tournament’s vibe in Morocco.
He recalled the electric atmosphere in Côte d’Ivoire and Gabon, where fans waved flags and greeted teams, contrasting it with the current experience in Morocco.
Broos criticized ticket management, citing chaos during South Africa’s match against Egypt, where ticket holders were denied entry while others without tickets gained access.
“My wife said she was scared,” he added, highlighting concerns over safety and organization. The coach also noted low attendance in matches, attributing it to non-free entry, unlike previous tournaments.
Broos emphasized the need for improvement, stating the lack of local involvement and atmosphere is affecting the tournament’s quality.
