Ghana U17 midfielder Gideon Yaw Yiriyon has taken a major step in his young career after completing a loan move to Swedish top-flight side Degerfors IF.
The 18-year-old joins the Allsvenskan club from Ghanaian outfit Inter Allies FC on a deal that runs until the end of next summer.
The agreement includes an option that allows Degerfors IF to make the transfer permanent when the loan expires in June 2026.
Yiriyon earned the move following an eye-catching spell with Umeå FC, where he impressed during the 2025 Superettan campaign despite the club’s relegation.
Degerfors confirmed the arrangement in an official statement, saying, ”Degerfors IF signs 18-year-old midfielder Yiriyon Gideon. The Ghanaian talent and the club have agreed on a loan deal with an option to buy,”
Sporting director Patrik Werner also highlighted the club’s admiration for the teenager’s development and maturity on the pitch.
Speaking via the club’s website, Werner said, ”Yiriyon is a young, exciting midfielder who we have followed closely during the autumn in Umeå. He has impressed greatly in Superettan and plays very maturely for his age.”
During his time at Umeå FC, Yiriyon featured in 13 matches across all competitions, gaining valuable senior experience.
