Bénédicte Simon is set to make her Black Queens debut against England, starting in the team’s friendly match at St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton today.
The 28-year-old defender, who plays for Servette Geneva, had been called up to the national team, bringing valuable European experience to the squad.
Simon, born in France to Ghanaian parents, has played for top clubs like PSG, Atlético Madrid, and Juventus.
Her inclusion adds strength and depth to Ghana’s defense, and she’s eager to make an impact.
“Ghana is my motherland. When I saw my name, I called my mother immediately. It was like a dream,” she expressed her excitement earlier.
The Black Queens, led by coach Kim Lars Björkegren, face a tough challenge against reigning European champions England.
The team is looking to use this match to gauge their progress ahead of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
