British Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana, Keith McMahon, has revealed that he would have chosen Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus over German playmaker Florian Wirtz during Liverpool’s summer transfer window.
Kudus has made an instant impact at his new club, Tottenham Hotspur, where he has already contributed one goal and four assists in eight Premier League appearances.
Speaking as a passionate Liverpool supporter, McMahon expressed disappointment that the club opted for Wirtz instead of the former West Ham star.
“[Mohammed] Kudus. The man is amazing,” he said. “I don’t know why we didn’t buy him from West Ham. I would have bought him before Wirtz.”
Liverpool signed Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the 2025/26 season, but the young midfielder has yet to hit top form under Arne Slot, failing to score in his first 11 matches.
His underwhelming start has sparked debate among fans about whether the Reds made the right choice.
McMahon’s remarks add to the ongoing discussions among Liverpool fans who believe Kudus’ flair, versatility, and dynamism could have been the missing piece in the club’s attack this season.
