Asante Kotoko interim management committee member, Kwesi Appiah, has dismissed concerns over the club’s underwhelming performance in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, stressing that preseason setbacks should not overshadow the bigger objectives ahead.

Appiah, who guided Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, downplayed the importance of results in the preparatory competition.

“Even if we lose 10-0, I don’t care,” he said in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com.

“What matters is that the players are getting minutes on the pitch. If I were Karim Zito, I would have even fielded the youth team. The real priority is the Ghana Premier League and the CAF Confederation Cup.”

Kotoko ended the tournament without a win, finishing bottom of the standings, while Bibiani Gold Stars emerged champions.

The annual GHALCA Top 4 brings together the four highest-placed clubs from the previous league season and serves primarily as a preseason test for teams before the competitive calendar kicks off.

The Ghana Premier League kicks off on September 12 as Kotoko take on Berekum Chelsea.
