GoldStars edge Hearts of Oak on penalties after dramatic comeback

Accra Hearts of Oak staged a spirited fightback from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bibiani GoldStars, only to fall 5-4 on penalties in a thrilling GHALCA Top 4 clash at the Legon Stadium.

Samuel Atta Kumi opened the scoring from the spot in the 17th minute after Raphael Amponsah fouled Adjetey in the box, before Justice Arthur doubled the Miners’ lead in the 35th minute.

The Phobians pulled one back on the stroke of half-time through George Paaku, who smashed home after fine work from Martin Karikari.

Three minutes into the second half, Hussein Mohammed equalised from an Osei Asibey cross to complete the comeback.

Both sides pressed for a winner but the tie headed into penalties, where GoldStars held their nerve to secure a 5-4 victory.

The result keeps GoldStars top of the table with 5 points, ahead of their final game against Heart of Lions, while Hearts remain winless in regulation time and face rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday, August 24.
