Thomas Partey focused on enjoying football as Arsenal future remains uncertain

Ghana international Thomas Partey says he’s prioritising happiness and enjoyment in his football as he approaches the end of his current contract with Arsenal.

The 31-year-old midfielder’s deal at the Emirates is set to expire this month, and while discussions are ongoing about a possible extension, no final decision has been made yet.

Partey was a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad during the 2024/25 season, putting in consistent performances despite the club finishing the campaign without silverware.

Speaking to 3Sports, Partey said he was pleased to have enjoyed a largely injury-free year—something that had been a concern in previous seasons.

“People talk a lot about my fitness, but I was available all season. I trained every day, played every game I could, and gave everything,” he said. “Injuries are part of football, but this year I felt strong.”

Now at a crossroads in his career, Partey admits his next move; whether staying in north London or seeking a new challenge will depend on more than just footballing ambition.

“At this stage of my career, I have to think about what makes sense for me and my family. It’s about ambition, security, and being happy,” he said. “I’ve supported Arsenal for a long time, and I’m proud to wear the shirt, but the decision will be made by the club, my agent, and myself. For now, I just want to enjoy the game.”

Since joining Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020, Partey has made 130 appearances and scored nine goals for the Gunners.
