Barcelona has decided against activating the purchase option for Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah, abruptly ending what once seemed to be a promising European adventure.
Signed on loan from Dreams FC in Ghana in September 2024, Issah’s move to Catalonia had sparked excitement and high expectations.
Early signs suggested the 19-year-old might be on the cusp of something special. His inclusion in first-team training sessions under manager Hansi Flick created a buzz, with many believing that Barcelona had discovered a future star. However, the reality of Issah’s time at the club proved far less inspiring.
Across the season, Issah managed only 26 minutes of game time in two appearances for Barcelona Atletic.
Despite injuries and a thin midfield lineup, he was consistently left out of matchday squads, raising questions about his integration and development within the team.
This underwhelming stint stands in stark contrast to Issah’s stellar performances for Ghana at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The midfielder’s commanding displays reignited discussions about his immense potential and left many fans wondering why Barcelona didn’t see the same promise.
Yet, even as his form on the international stage made headlines, it wasn’t enough to sway Barcelona’s technical team. Their decision not to trigger the buyout clause signals a lack of belief in the young midfielder’s ability to make an impact at Camp Nou.
