Black Stars management committee chairman, Dr. Randy Abbey, has hinted that several key players might miss the upcoming Unity Cup match against Nigeria on May 28, leaving coach Otto Addo to depend on new faces.
The tournament, which features Ghana, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica, presents an opportunity for new players to shine.
Due to the ongoing European season and the tournament’s timing outside the FIFA international calendar, coach Otto Addo is expected to make significant changes to the squad.
Dr. Abbey mentioned that the coach has a list of players, including foreign-based and locally-based ones, with some on standby in case of injuries.
“I think the coach has a list of players. You have foreign-based players and some locally-based players. Some are in the first squad, there are some that are on standby just in case someone gets injured or is unable to make it,” he told 3Sports.
“I think we will have quite a good team. The only thing is that there are some players that we know and are used to that won’t be there. But it is an opportunity for others to demonstrate they have what it takes to be in the team,” he added.
The match against Nigeria will be a test for the Black Stars’ new lineup.
