Former Ghana international Kwesi Appiah believes the Black Stars are still searching for a reliable goal-scorer to fill the void left by legendary striker Asamoah Gyan.
According to Appiah, Gyan’s retirement has created a significant gap in the team’s attacking lineup, and finding a suitable replacement has proven to be a challenge.
Appiah, who played alongside Gyan during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, acknowledges that the striker’s exceptional skills and consistency made him a vital component of the team’s success.
“It’s a very tough task to replace someone of his calibre and quality. That type of striker and character is not produced that often,” Appiah told Flashscore.
“At this moment in time, you have a player like Kudus and potentially Semenyo, who are playing really well for their clubs. We’d hope they can eventually have that type of level and consistency for Ghana to help lead the team to glory as Asamoah Gyan so often did.”
Gyan remains the all-time leading goal-scorer for the Ghana national team, with 51 goals.
