Hungary welcome England to the Puskas Arena on Saturday as both teams kick off their respective 2022-23 UEFA Nations League campaigns.

The two sides have been placed in Group A3 alongside Italy and Germany, making it arguably the toughest group in the competition.

England finished third in Group A2 last time around. Meanwhile, Hungary gained promotion from Group B3 after finishing three points clear of second-place Russia.

The Hungarians lost just one of their six games in the previous campaign, picking up three wins and two draws along the way.

Funnily enough, Russia and Serbia both outscored Hungary in Group B3. But the group winners conceded just four goals in six outings to finish atop the standings.

Since the start of 2021, Hungary have endured an inconsistent run of results – recording seven wins, five draws and five losses across all competitions.

Having won only four of their previous ten outings, the Hungarians could struggle to get the better of England.

On the flip side, England have avoided defeat in normal time across each of their past 18 matches in all competitions.

The Three Lions have also lost just three of their previous 36 away games across all competitions, highlighting their strength on the road.

Since losing the Euro 2020 final to Italy on penalties, Gareth Southgate’s sides have notched a nine-game unbeaten run – sealing seven wins and two draws in the process.

After thrashing Hungary (4-0) back in September, England secured two high-scoring wins over Andorra (4-0 and 5-0) before crushing San Marino (10-0).

The Three Lions have played two friendlies in 2022, beating Switzerland (2-1) before getting the better of Ivory Coast (3-0).

Head-to-head: Hungary and England have faced each other 24 times over the years, with Hungary winning on just five occasions.

In fact, Hungary haven’t been England since all the way back in 1962. Since then, England have registered 12 wins and three draws.

Team news: England duo Jarrod Bowen and James Justin could make their international debuts on Saturday. Meanwhile, Harry Kane sits on 69 caps and 49 goals for his country.

As for Hungary, Peter Szappanos, Csaba Spandler, Peter Barath and Zalan Vancsa are all in line to make their international debuts this weekend.

Although England possess more quality than Hungary, the hosts well be eager to put on a good performance for their fans.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Hungary will upset the odds to claim all three points on Saturday.
