Real Oviedo vs Ibiza-Eivissa – 29/05/2022

Real Oviedo’s Last Attempt to Get Into the Play-Offs Set to be Halted by Ibiza

955

It’s the final weekend of Segunda Division action this weekend as Real Oviedo welcome UD Ibiza to the Carlos Tartiere Stadium with the away side eyeing up a finish as high as 10th in the table just as the home outfit look to move into fifth.

This is a massive fixture for Oviedo, as they can still find their way into the play-off spots with a victory. Tenerife and Real Valladolid have secured their positions in fourth and third, respectively, meaning Girona, Las Palmas and Oviedo will battle it out for positions fifth and sixth which qualify for the final attempt to get into La Liga.

Las Palmas do meet with 17th-placed Sporting Gijon, however, just as Girona travel to meet with 10th-placed Burgos. It doesn’t bode well for Oviedo, as they must better the result of those two games, with them trailing both by two points.

Simply put, a draw would not be good enough, and they must win this clash with Ibiza and hope Las Palmas either lose or draw, with them having a better goals difference.

Ultimately, José Ángel Ziganda’s men have fallen at the final hurdle in the race for a place in La Liga, as they are now winless in their past three games.

A 0-0 draw with Malaga came first, before a 3-3 draw with Real Zaragoza. However, they lost to Las Palmas 2-1 in a game that was basically a ‘winner takes all’ clash for sixth place.

At the same time for Oviedo, they can still drop into eighth with Ponferradina only two points behind them in the race for the top seven.

They are still boasting of the second-best defensive record in the division, however, with Oviedo letting in just 39 goals from 41 games – only La Liga hopefuls Almeria boast of a better record.

As for Ibiza, they sit a comfortable 12 points above the bottom four and relegation into the third tier has not been on the cards for some time.

Moreover, the club have scored the most goals from those inside the bottom half with 51, but have let in the most of those outside of the relegation zone too with 56 goals conceded.

Ibiza are also winless since edging past Gijon at the start of the month, as they have lost to Mirandes and Valladolid, while also drawing with Lugo. Forebet now predicts a draw here and the game to see under 2.5 goals.
