Saturday brings us action from the Norwegian top flight and this Eliteserien clash between Stromsgodset and Viking at the Marienlyst Stadion with both teams looking to press early claims for a possible top three finish and the promise of European involvement for next season.
After a somewhat shaky start to this new Eliteserien campaign which produced back to back defeats to Jerv and Molde in 1-0 and 3-1 reverses respectively, Stromsgodset have pulled themselves together and have slipped to just one further defeat in their subsequent seven matches overall.

That loss was a resounding 5-0 humiliation on home soil to Sandefjord but the hosts have also recorded wins against Rosenborg 3-0, Kristiansund 3-0.
Аnd a 3-2 victory over Valerenga along with a 0-0 draw with Viking away from home and a 2-2 draw at Bodo/Glimt as well.
Goals have also featured prominently where Stromsgodset have been concerned and indeed, six of Stromsgodset’s nine games to date have resulted in over 2.5 goals being scored, so further goals look to be on the cards on Saturday.
Viking currently occupy 2nd place and are just two points behind the early league leaders in the Eliteserien, Lillestrom, ahead of this upcoming trip to the Marienlyst Stadion as they bring a seven-match unbeaten run into this encounter.
Four wins out of these seven games have helped maintain Viking’s early momentum in this Norwegian top flight season with victories gained over Bodo/Glimt 2-0, Haugesund 5-1, Molde 4-3 and a 3-0 home win over Jerv as well.
As you can see, goals have also featured in Viking’s games so far this season as well, and having suffered just the one defeat in their last 12 outings on the road, Viking will also feel confident about their chances of producing a favourable result here this Saturday too, especially as they have picked up eight wins during this period on their travels.
In addition, Viking have scored 2 goals or more in nine of their last 15 outings on the road and with Stromsgodset regularly involved in high-scoring games, the prospect of a few goals in this clash on Saturday looks a real possibility with both teams pushing for places near the top of the division.
