Talented midfielder Teboho Mokoena has been named Man of the Match after a fine performance for South Africa in the game against Morocco.

One of the favourites to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, Morocco has been knocked out following a defeat to South Africa.

Nicknamed the Atlas Lions, Morocco locked horns with the Bafana Bafana on Tuesday night in a Round 16 fixture played at Laurent Pokou Stadium.

In a game that Morocco dominated, there were no goals in the first half thanks to some very good defending by the South Africans.

With their first big chance of the game coming in the 57th minute, the Bafana Bafana scored through Evidence Makgopa to take the lead against the run of play.

Later in the 85th minute, Morocco had a chance to restore parity when a penalty was handed to the favourites.

Unfortunately, Achraf Hakimi could not equalise as his kick hit the crossbar before going out of play.

In added time, Teboho Mokoena scored from a direct free-kick to seal a delightful 2-0 win for South Africa to knockout Morocco.

For his outstanding performance in the game against Morocco, Teboho Mokoena has been adjudged Man of the Match.

The Bafana Bafana will now face off with Cape Verde in the quarter-finals of the 2023 AFCON.
