Published: 2 years ago
Division one

Asante Kotoko scored a second half penalty to beat Real Tamale United 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium. The Porcupine Warriors who drew with Accra Great Olympics last weekend needed the points to appreciate in the standings with the hope of catching up with leaders FC Samartex.

Steven Dese Mukwala converted a second-half penalty in the 80th minute after midfielder Baba Yahaya was fouled in the box.

The Ugandan now takes his goal tally to five in the season having shaken off his earlier struggles. Asante Kotoko had a goal disallowed for offside in the 19th minute. Midfielder Richmond Lamptey also missed a great opportunity as he failed to hit the back of the net inside 43 minutes.

The victory takes Asante Kotoko to sixth spot with 26 points – three points behind leaders FC Samartex and one point adrift of Aduana FC, Nsoatreman FC and Berekum Chelsea who are level on 27 points.

Real Tamale United, are second from bottom with 14 points after four consecutive defeats in the League.
