GFA General Secretary wants clubs to assist in educating fans

Ghana Football Association General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo wants Ghanaian clubs to assist in the education of fans at match centres to prevent violence.

The Ghanaian Premier League has witnessed series of football tragedy and the infamous incident is the May 9 2001 disaster at the Accra Sports Stadium where 126 fans lost their lives.

However, it appears lessons have not been learnt with a recent violence happening in Dormaa by Aduana FC supporters on Tamale City.

“Football rules are such that clubs have responsibilities, there’s a responsibility on the organiser, which is the GFA. There are responsibilities on the clubs and all the key players of the game,” Prosper told Joynews.

“Clubs have responsibilities to educate their fans [on their conduct at match venues]. They have the responsibility to demarcate where their supporters sit and where the away fans also sit so they can clearly monitor and ensure that everything goes fine.”
