Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has defended his decision to drop Andre Ayew from the starting lineup against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Eyebrows were raised after the captain was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win over the Southern Africans at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
“This is the choice you have as a head coach,” Hughton said during a post-match conference.
“You know the quality that Andre has, you also know the quality that I like to think the squad have…so these are very difficult decisions for me; certainly nothing to read into that.”
The crucial victory puts Ghana in first place in Group E with 7 points.
The Black Stars will travel to play the return leg against Angola on Monday, hoping to maintain their lead in the group.
