Wolfsburg and Union Berlin are set to meet this weekend in the Bundesliga at the Volkswagen Arena with the Wolves aiming to salvage some hopes in terms of getting into the Europa League once again.

It’s been an incredibly topsy-turvy season for Wolfsburg in Germany this season and without any European football, the club sit down in an underwhelming position of eighth.

Ahead of this clash, however, they are now within five points of the Europa Conference League spot of sixth and fans should still be hopeful of getting in there because of Eintracht Frankfurt’s unpredictable results.

Wolfsburg did draw with Frankfurt at home last time out in the league and they missed their best chance yet this season to get back into the European spots.

Omar Marmoush gave the club a lead that day, but two quickfire goals from Frankfurt saw them lead 2-1 until Yannick Gerhardt scored in the 43rd minute of the game. Niko Kovac’s side had seven shots on target that day and probably should have got the win.

Prior to this, Kovac’s men defeated Koln 2-0 in the Bundesliga, although they did lose 3-0 to RB Leipzig after also drawing with Schalke and losing 4-2 to Bayern Munich.

It does now mean Wolfsburg have not won at home in the league since a stunning 6-0 victory over Freiburg back on the club’s first game back after the World Cup break.

The Wolves and Union did meet a few weeks back in the DFB-Pokal, as Wolfsburg once again forfeited a 1-0 lead in the game.

Robin Knoche cancelled out Luca Waldschmidt’s fifth-minute goal, as Kevin Behrens scored the winning goal 11 minutes from time. Niko Gießelmann was also sent off that day for Union.

Union are heading into this one off the back of three games without a win in German football since beating RB Leipzig in a stunning way away from home. The men from the capital would draw with Schalke soon after, as they were hammered by Bayern Munich in the league not long after.

A 0-0 draw with Koln came last weekend for the club and it now means they are in the midst of their lengthiest winless run in the Bundesliga this season.

Union are behind Borussia Dortmund and Bayern in the title race by five points, but Forebet does predict a win for them here and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
