At the opposite end of the standings, Augsburg find themselves fourteenth – one point clear of the bottom three and ten points behind Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund suffered back-to-back away defeats before the World Cup, losing 2-0 to VfL Wolfsburg before losing 4-2 to Borussia Monchengladbach.
As a result, BVB have lost six of their 15 Bundesliga games this season – picking up eight wins and a solitary draw in the process.
It is worth noting, however, that Dortmund have enjoyed plenty of success at Signal Iduna Park of late, having avoided defeat in each of their last eight home games across all competitions.
Better still, Dortmund have kept a clean sheet in each of their previous three home matches – scoring over 2.5 on two occasions during that period.
As for Augsburg, they have only managed to win four of their 15 league outings this term – registering three draws and eight defeats along the way.
It is also worth pointing out that only the bottom two sides have scored fewer goals Augsburg this season, highlighting their struggles in attack.
Augsburg head into Sunday’s clash on a seven-match winless stretch in the Bundesliga, having recorded three draws and four losses since their last victory.
After failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their past nine games across all competitions, Augsburg look destined to concede this weekend.
Head-to-head: Augsburg have only managed to win one of their previous six league meetings with Dortmund, suffering four defeats in the process.
When you look at the bigger picture, BVB have suffered just two defeats in their last 14 Bundesliga encounters with Augsburg.
Team news: Dortmund look set to be without the injured trio of Thomas Meunier, Abdoulaye Kamara and Mateu Morey on Sunday.
On the flip side, Augsburg’s injury list contains Tobia Strobl, Andre Hahn, Iago, Reece Oxford, Florian Niederlechner and Felix Uduokhai.
Although Dortmund have struggled for consistency throughout the campaign, they shouldn’t struggle to overcome lowly Augsburg on home soil.
Forebet predicts that both teams will score on Sunday. However, Dortmund are expected to outscore Augsburg and secure all three points.
