4801

Sporting Gijon and Leganes will clash on Saturday afternoon in La Liga 2, with both clubs looking to crack the top half of the table.

While La Liga is on a break due to the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, La Liga 2 will continue to play. Sporting Gijon are 11th in the league standings after 15 matches. They are just outside of the top half of the table by goal difference.

Sporting Gijon are just four points off the playoff places in the division. Los Rojiblancos are not in form going into round No 16. Sporting are winless in four straight games in La Liga 2. However, Sporting drew three of those four games.

Leganes are 12th in the table and in better form than Sporting Gijon. Los Pepineros are unbeaten in four straight matches in the Segunda, with three of those games finishing as wins.

Although Leganes go into the game in better form than Sporting Gijon, it is the latter who has the better record in head-to-head matches. Sporting won three and drew three games versus Leganes in the teams’ last six head-to-head games.

In 2021-22, Sporting Gijon picked up four points from six points on offer versus Leganes. Sporting won at home 2-1 and drew away to Leganes 1-1.

Sporting Gijon are undefeated in their last 16 matches against Leganes in all competitions. Los Rojiblancos picked up six points from the last six games. They were outscored 9-5 in their last six games.

Cristo Gonzalez leads Gijon in goals in the Segunda with four. Jose Angel has been Sporting’s leading goal-creator. He has four assists this season in the league.

Leganes took 13 points from the last six games. Los Pepineros scored eight goals and conceded four times across the last six matches. Jose Arnaiz and Juan Munoz lead Leganes in goals scored with three each.

Los Pepineros have not played well on the road this season, collecting a record of 2W-0D-5L. Sporting Gijon are unbeaten in four straight home matches, with three games ending in wins.

Sporting Gijon have an excellent record against Leganes in head-to-head meetings. Their home form is also good, meaning Los Rojiblancos should post a victory this weekend against Leganes.

It should be a close affair, with Sporting Gijon winning by a one-goal margin. Los Rojiblancos should win 2-1 and potentially move into the top half of the table.
