Kevin De Bruyne’s unsettled start at Napoli could lead to his departure during the next winter transfer window, despite the Belgium international having a contract with the Italian club until June 2027.
The 35-year-old joined Napoli from Manchester City in the summer of 2025 but has not fully adapted to life at the club. According to Mundo Deportivo, De Bruyne’s performances have been inconsistent over recent months, while Italian media are now reporting that he could leave as early as January.
De Bruyne was unable to produce his best form during his first season in Naples after suffering a serious muscle injury in October 2025. His difficult campaign was also partly attributed to a strained relationship with former manager Antonio Conte.
The midfielder has shown some improvement this season under Massimiliano Allegri. However, Il Mattino reports that disagreements between De Bruyne and several team-mates in the Napoli dressing room could accelerate a possible exit.
The reported situation is not limited to tensions within the squad. Napoli may also be prepared to consider the player’s departure if the timing is right, even though he remains under contract for a further six months beyond the current season.
Napoli’s complicated position in Serie A and in European competition could influence the club’s decision. The need to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window, and to address what are described as structural weaknesses in Allegri’s team, may prompt the club’s management to reassess whether retaining De Bruyne until the summer is in its best interests.
Reports suggest that Napoli and the player could reach an agreement over his departure. If that happens, De Bruyne would leave after only part of his contract had been completed, with the club potentially using the winter market to reshape Allegri’s squad.
