A proposed 28 December date has emerged for the postponed AFC Champions League Elite match between Al Nassr and Al Wasl, but the rearranged fixture has not yet received final approval.
The match was due to be played in the third round of the league phase but did not take place after Al Wasl’s delegation failed to travel to Saudi Arabia. Discussions within the Asian Football Confederation remain ongoing as the relevant authorities consider how the fixture should be settled.
Sources within the Asian Football Confederation told Asharq Al-Awsat that the competitions department had suggested 28 December as a new date. The proposal remains under review and has not been formally confirmed.
The latest development follows official action by Al Nassr, who wrote to the Asian Football Confederation and attached documents stating that the club was ready to host the match in Riyadh.
The Saudi club also said it was prepared to receive Al Wasl’s delegation and complete all the arrangements required for the game to be played on its original date.
Al Nassr has called for its organisational and legal rights to be protected after the Emirati side did not make the scheduled journey to Saudi Arabia. The circumstances surrounding the missed fixture are now being assessed by the appropriate committees.
Those reviews cover both the legal and logistical aspects of the situation. A final decision will determine whether the match is rescheduled or whether the result is decided in accordance with the competition regulations.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation previously issued a statement confirming that it had been coordinating with Al Nassr and the relevant authorities to receive Al Wasl’s delegation.
It said the necessary procedures for flight permits had been completed and that the required organisational arrangements had been provided. The federation also confirmed that the Asian and Emirati football associations, as well as Al Wasl, had been notified.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation added that the match commissioner and the refereeing team had arrived in Riyadh in preparation for the fixture.
No final ruling has yet been announced, leaving the proposed 28 December date subject to approval by the relevant bodies.
