Ghanaian forward James Ampofo scored the only goal as Esbjerg fB secured a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Hobro in the Danish First Division.
The 23-year-old settled the match at the DS Arena in the 25th minute, giving Esbjerg three important points on the road.
Ampofo rose above the Hobro defence to meet Adam Ahmad’s accurate cross and powered his header into the net. The goal came after a closely contested opening period in which the visitors had worked hard to establish a narrow advantage.
Esbjerg held on to their lead until half-time and then produced a disciplined defensive performance to keep Hobro at bay after the break.
The hosts increased the pressure as they searched for an equaliser and created several promising chances. However, Esbjerg’s defence remained organised and resilient, securing a clean sheet as well as all three points.
Ampofo continued to contribute to Esbjerg’s attacking efforts throughout the game and was booked in the 83rd minute as his side battled to preserve their advantage.
The victory provides a boost to Esbjerg’s campaign, although they remain 10th in the Danish First Division with 14 points from 14 matches.
Ampofo’s goal was his fifth of the season. He has also provided one assist in nine appearances, underlining his growing importance to Esbjerg’s attacking unit.
Esbjerg will return to action against AB on November 21, with Ampofo aiming to continue his strong goalscoring form as the club seek to build momentum in the second half of the campaign.
