Ghana are expected to recall several key players for their decisive 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Somalia, with Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, Marvin Senaya and Prince Kwabena Adu among those in contention.
The Black Stars have lost their opening two matches and need positive results from the fixtures to keep their qualification hopes alive. The technical team is therefore expected to select the strongest available squad for the Matchday Three and Four meetings.
The first game is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, with Ghana set to host Somalia at Essipong Stadium. The return fixture will take place on November 16.
Ayew is expected to return after missing the previous squad. The Black Stars captain has continued to feature for Sheffield United and recently scored his first goal for the club.
That performance also earned him the Player of the Match award, strengthening his case for a recall as Ghana attempt to recover from their difficult start.
Kudus has also been in encouraging form for Tottenham Hotspur since returning from injury. The winger has made 10 appearances, including six starts, and has provided three assists.
His availability would provide a significant boost to the Black Stars as they prepare for two matches that could have a major bearing on their campaign.
Senaya is another player who has resumed club football after suffering a hamstring injury during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The defender came on as a substitute against Strasbourg and Auxerre.
His appearances have offered signs of progress as he works towards full match fitness following a lengthy period on the sidelines.
Adu endured a disrupted start to the season after suffering an injury. His club managed his return carefully, limiting his involvement in order to avoid aggravating the problem.
The striker has now completed his recovery and has scored three goals in his past three appearances for Viktoria Plzen in domestic league and European competitions.
Ghana began the qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Cote d’Ivoire in Bouake before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Those results led to the resignation of head coach Carlos Queiroz. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation subsequently began the process of finding a new substantive manager.
Kim Lars Bjorkegren was appointed to take charge, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram named as assistant coaches. Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has also joined the technical team as goalkeeping trainer.
The Somalia matches will be Ghana’s first opportunity to respond under the new coaching set-up and avoid further damage to their bid to reach the 2027 AFCON tournament.
