Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku says coaches, not the association, are responsible for choosing players for Ghana’s national teams.
Okraku made the statement when a GFA delegation appeared before Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports, where questions were raised about allegations that the association interferes in Black Stars squad selections.

“The GFA does not select players for coaches,” Okraku told the committee.
He said national team coaches select their squads with assistance from scouts, while the GFA’s role is to provide the structures and personnel required to identify talent throughout the country.
Okraku acknowledged that the association has the power to appoint and dismiss coaches, but insisted that this authority does not extend to overriding their technical decisions.
He also played down suggestions that the GFA could control how many players are selected from individual clubs, using a light-hearted example to underline what he described as the limits of the association’s influence over squad composition.
The comments come amid continued public debate about the make-up and performances of Ghana’s national teams, particularly the Black Stars. The selection process and the extent of the football association’s involvement have remained frequent points of discussion.
