Port City head coach Christopher Ennin says he is encouraged by his side’s start to their first Ghana Premier League season, but insists the Kukurantumi-based club are determined to achieve more as the campaign continues.
Port City have taken 14 points from their opening eight matches and sit fourth in the league table, making an impressive early impact in Ghana’s top flight.
Ennin revealed that the club’s original target was even more ambitious. The team had aimed to collect at least 13 points from their first five fixtures as they sought to establish themselves among the division’s competitive sides.
Although that objective was not met, the manager believes the points haul after eight games represents a positive return and says there is still scope for improvement.
“I’m impressed with our performances so far in the Premier League. Our target at the beginning of the season was to secure at least 13 points from our first five games, but collecting 14 points from eight matches is not a bad return. We will continue to push hard because the sky is our limit,” Ennin told Eagle Eye GH.
Port City’s record so far comprises four wins, two draws and two defeats. Their results have provided a solid platform for a club making its maiden appearance in the Ghana Premier League.
The early form has also placed Ennin and his technical team in a position to build on the momentum and attempt to keep Port City among the leading teams in the competition.
Their next test comes on Matchday Nine, when they travel to Tema to face Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex.
Ennin will be looking for another disciplined and consistent performance from his players as Port City attempt to extend their encouraging run and maintain their strong position during their debut Premier League campaign.
