Medeama SC manager Ibrahim Tanko says his side will travel to Kumasi determined to secure a positive result against Asante Kotoko in their Ghana Premier League Matchweek 9 fixture on Sunday, November 1.
The match will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where league leaders Medeama will aim to extend their strong start to the season and strengthen their position at the top of the table.
Medeama have collected 17 points from their opening matches and have won five of their past six league games. Their preparations have also been lifted by a 1-0 victory over Aduana FC in their previous outing.
Tanko accepts that facing Asante Kotoko in Kumasi will be a demanding test, but insists Medeama will not abandon their usual approach as they seek a favourable result away from home.
The Medeama coach described the fixture as an exciting one and recalled the club’s recent record against the Porcupine Warriors.
“I think it’s always very good and exciting to play against them, especially in Kumasi. And yeah, like I said, last year was good for us, and we won a point there and then beat them 4-0 at home.”
Medeama’s most recent meeting with Kotoko ended in a convincing 4-0 win for the Mauve and Yellow in April 2026. Tanko expects that result to provide the hosts with added motivation before Sunday’s game.
“So definitely, it’s at the back of their minds. So they are preparing very well to meet us. And, like I always say, we don’t change our style of play, whether at home or away. So definitely, we are going there to fight for something,” he said.
Medeama will hope to reproduce the performance that earned them their emphatic victory in the previous encounter, although the atmosphere at Kotoko’s home ground will present a different challenge.
Asante Kotoko go into the game looking to respond after being held to a 1-1 draw by AshantiGold in their last match.
The Kumasi-based club are eighth in the standings with 12 points and will see Sunday’s fixture as an opportunity to reduce the five-point deficit separating them from the leaders.
Medeama are seeking to preserve their place at the summit, while Kotoko will be aiming to respond in front of their home supporters. The two sides will meet at 15:00 GMT at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
