Former Hearts of Oak striker Bernard Arthur says the club’s players should be given greater recognition by Ghana’s national team selectors.
The 29-year-old believes Hearts of Oak have several players capable of making an impact across Ghana’s national teams, rather than being considered only for the senior Black Stars.
The Phobians have made an impressive start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, taking 17 points from their opening eight matches. That run has left them second in the standings.
Arthur, who also played for Liberty Professionals and Azam FC, says the club’s strong domestic form should lead to more international opportunities for its players.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Swiit FM, he expressed disappointment that Benjamin Asare is the main Hearts of Oak player currently receiving recognition from Ghana’s national teams.
“For some time now, I have been following Hearts of Oak and the Ghana Premier League as a whole, and I have seen a lot of talent, particularly in the Hearts of Oak team,” he said.
“They are currently second in the league standings, and we are talking about one of the biggest clubs in Africa. Yet, none of their players are in the various national teams, with the exception of Benjamin Asare. I do not think that speaks well of the situation.
“Their players should be dominating the national teams, not just the Black Stars. I believe that would also boost their confidence and motivate them to do more.”
Arthur said the club’s influence should extend beyond the senior national side, with its players also considered for Ghana’s other representative teams.
Hearts of Oak’s position near the top of the Ghana Premier League has strengthened the former striker’s argument that opportunities should be created for more members of the squad to represent the country.
