Ghana has appointed beach volleyball player Daniel Lartey as captain of its delegation for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
Lartey will lead the team as Ghana prepares to compete at the global multi-sport event alongside some of the world’s most promising young athletes.
Table tennis player Joanita Borteye has been named deputy captain and will support Lartey in guiding the delegation. The appointments are intended to provide leadership and direction for Ghana’s young competitors as they represent the country on the international stage.
Badminton player Obapomba Adu-Mintah has also been selected as Ghana’s flag bearer. Described as the team’s most decorated athlete, Adu-Mintah will carry the Ghanaian flag at both the opening and closing ceremonies.
The leadership group will have a central role in representing Ghana throughout the Games, while helping the athletes prepare for the demands of an international competition featuring competitors from across the world.
The 2026 Youth Olympic Games will be a landmark event for Africa, with Dakar set to become the first African city to host the multi-sport competition.
More than 200 countries are expected to take part, bringing together young athletes from around the world to display their ability and compete for honours.
Ghana will hope its delegation can make a strong impression in Dakar, while giving its athletes valuable international experience and the opportunity to represent the country at one of the world’s major youth sporting events.
