Nii Lante Vanderpuye accuses GFA of putting Black Stars ahead of Ghana football

The former Member of Parliament for the Odododiodioo Constituency also expressed concern about the impact of those priorities on the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions, which he said continued to face difficulties.

According to Vanderpuye, the focus on the Black Stars had contributed to the decline of some of Ghana’s traditional clubs, including Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

He warned that the two clubs would continue to struggle unless major changes were made to the country’s football system.

“The current football system is affecting clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. If we fail to address these issues, there is no way these two clubs will win the league in the next five years,” he added.

Pressure on GFA leadership

The Ghana Football Association has faced growing criticism over the performances of several national teams and their failure to qualify for some continental and international competitions.

Those concerns have led to calls for GFA president Kurt Okraku to resign.

Vanderpuye’s comments come amid wider debate about the association’s management of Ghanaian football, including the balance between supporting the Black Stars and developing domestic competitions and other national teams.
