Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston says it would take a “miracle” for the Black Stars to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations after losing their opening two matches.
Ghana are bottom of their qualifying group without a point, having been beaten by Cote d’Ivoire and Gambia. Their defeat by Gambia came at the Accra Sports Stadium, where they surrendered a two-goal lead.
The results leave Ghana with a difficult task as they attempt to reach the tournament, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The Black Stars missed the previous edition and are at risk of failing to qualify for the competition for a second successive time.
Ghana’s next assignments are a double-header against Somalia, but Kingston believes the team must produce an exceptional recovery to remain in contention.
“Looking at the situation now, it will be a miracle for us to qualify,” Kingston told 3Sports.
“Two teams have six points; it means Ghana will have to win all games. For me, it will be very difficult, and it will take a miracle to turn things around.”
The Black Stars have not won an AFCON qualifying match since September 2023. They also failed to record a victory during the qualifying campaign for the last edition of the tournament.
