Former Hearts of Oak coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani says Ghana must take a structured and sustainable approach to rebuilding the Black Stars after their difficult start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
Ghana began their Group C campaign with defeats by Ivory Coast and The Gambia, results which brought an early end to Carlos Queiroz’s time as head coach.
Dramani, a former assistant coach of the senior national team, believes the priority should be to restore unity within the squad and establish a clear development plan rather than focus only on securing immediate results.
“We need a structured team for now. The team looks scattered, and we need a team, a unit that can bring people together, that can begin to groom the team again,” he told 3Sports.
“And this is a process, and that is where we are lacking.”
The former Hearts of Oak coach said Ghana needed greater clarity over its ambitions and a consistent method for achieving them.
He warned that the rebuilding process should not be shaped solely by the pressure to produce instant results, arguing instead that the Black Stars require a defined pathway and long-term planning.
“We need to be deliberate, we need to be consistent, we need to be sustainable in terms of how we want what we want. Sometimes we don’t; you don’t really know what we want. We need to have a clear pathway of what we want,” he added.
Interim team named for Somalia matches
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has been appointed to oversee the interim Black Stars technical team for Ghana’s November doubleheader against Somalia.
He will work alongside Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, with former Ghana goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda taking responsibility for goalkeeping.
The Black Stars have yet to record a point from their opening two qualifiers and face a challenging route to the 2027 AFCON. Ghana also missed the previous edition of the tournament in Morocco.
The two matches against Somalia will give Ghana an opportunity to revive their qualifying campaign. The fixtures will take place while preparations continue for the appointment of a permanent head coach.
