Real Madrid have demanded the immediate resignation of La Liga president Javier Tebas after he compared the club’s communications and use of its television channel with propaganda methods associated with Nazi Germany.
The club described Tebas’ remarks as “deeply offensive” and “morally repugnant” and called for him to leave both his position as head of the Spanish top flight and his role as vice-president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF).
“Real Madrid considers it absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious that someone holding two positions of utmost responsibility in Spanish football resorts to a comparison with the propaganda methods of the Nazi regime to discredit our club, its management and its television,” the club said.
Tebas made the comments in a lengthy post on X on Friday, in which he criticised Real Madrid’s public messaging and the output of Real Madrid TV.
“Real Madrid’s management directs an orchestra of mouthpieces and Real Madrid TV leads the singing,” he wrote.
“Their score is always the same: select the plays that suit them, repeat the grievance, feed the suspicion, and point fingers at the enemies.
“That method recalls propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s minister of propaganda: systematic repetition, construction of an enemy, and subordination of facts to the narrative.”
Tebas later clarified that his comparison was with “those propaganda techniques” and “not with an ideology”.
Real Madrid rejected that explanation, saying it did not lessen what it called the “institutionally unworthy nature of his statements”.
The club said the remarks were part of a longer pattern of criticism from Tebas directed at Real Madrid, club president Florentino Perez and its media organisations.
“These statements constitute yet another episode in the repeated attacks by Javier Tebas against Real Madrid, its president and its media outlets,” the club added.
The latest dispute follows Tebas’ criticism last month of Real Madrid after the club alleged there was a refereeing conspiracy against it.
The La Liga president has also previously clashed with Real Madrid and Perez over their opposition to plans for a European Super League in 2021.
In 2025, Tebas said Real Madrid had “lost their head” after the club sent a formal complaint to the Spanish Football Association about officiating in the league.
Real Madrid’s statement specifically called for Tebas to step down from both of his senior positions in Spanish football, rather than limiting its demand to his role at La Liga.
