Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca is waiting for further information on Ghana international Antoine Semenyo after the club’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town.
Semenyo came on in the 77th minute at the Etihad Stadium, replacing Belgian-Ghanaian forward Jeremy Doku, as the Sky Blues secured victory in Saturday’s closely contested match.
The result was tempered by fitness concerns over several Manchester City players, with Semenyo, Erling Haaland, Nico O’Reilly, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic all requiring assessment.
Maresca said he hoped Semenyo and Haaland had not suffered serious injuries, while acknowledging the difficulty their possible absence would create for the team.
“Hopefully they [Semenyo and Haaland] are good, but they are big players for us,” Maresca told Sky Sports after the match.
“Same for any team losing their best two players. It’s difficult for everyone, but we’ll see what’s happened and hopefully find a solution.”
The former Chelsea manager later gave an update on the players’ conditions in an interview with Manchester City’s media channels.
“I asked all of them. Mateo said he was okay, Matheus said he was okay, Erling said he was also okay. Nico, it’s still his back. The only one we need to wait on was Antoine, and we will see,” he said.
Semenyo has been an important contributor for Manchester City this season. The Ghana international has scored two goals and supplied three assists in nine appearances across all competitions.
Maresca’s side will now await the results of further checks on Semenyo before determining whether the forward will be available for their next fixture.
