Hearts of Oak moved level with Ghana Premier League leaders Medeama after a late 1-0 victory over Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku Complex in Tema on Saturday.
Substitute Kwesi Asmah scored four minutes before the end of normal time to secure a second successive league win for the Phobians, following their narrow victory over Port City in their previous match.
The 23-year-old forward settled a closely contested Week Seven fixture after a defensive mistake by Vision FC. A poor clearance inside the penalty area fell to Asmah, who created room for a shot before sending a left-footed effort into the net in the 86th minute.
The goal rewarded Hearts of Oak’s persistence in a match where clear opportunities were limited and their possession rarely developed into sustained attacking pressure.
Both sides spent the opening stages competing for control in midfield, with neither able to establish a clear advantage. Hearts had slightly more of the ball as they attempted to dictate the tempo, but the hosts created more attempts and regularly looked capable of threatening the visitors’ defence.
Vision FC, however, lacked the finishing required to turn their attacking efforts into a goal. Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was particularly important in the second half, making an excellent save to prevent the hosts from taking the lead.
Asare’s intervention kept the score level and allowed Hearts to remain in the contest as the match moved towards what appeared increasingly likely to be a goalless draw.
Instead, Asmah took advantage of the late defensive lapse to give Hearts all three points. His immediate impact after being introduced from the bench underlined the value of squad depth during a demanding league campaign.
The defeat was a frustrating outcome for Vision FC, who had produced a competitive display and recorded more attempts than their opponents. Their inability to beat Asare, followed by the costly error at the other end, left them without a reward.
Vision FC’s next league fixture is against Dreams FC. They will need to improve their finishing and maintain greater concentration defensively if they are to convert promising performances into results.
For Hearts, the victory represents another step in their recovery from an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. They are now level on points with Medeama, who are scheduled to play Samartex on Sunday.
Whatever the outcome of that match, Hearts of Oak are assured of finishing the weekend in second place.
The Accra-based club will next host Basake Holy Stars as they seek to extend their winning run and consolidate their position near the top of the table. Asmah’s decisive contribution may also strengthen his case for more opportunities as the campaign progresses.
