Berekum Chelsea earned their first away victory of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season by defeating Heart of Lions 2-0 at Kpando Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors overcame a dominant possession display from Heart of Lions to claim all three points, with Dramani Awuah and Paul Attah Agyei scoring in the 40th and 70th minutes.
Heart of Lions had enjoyed the stronger periods during the opening half, but Chelsea took the lead five minutes before the interval. Awuah finished against the run of play, giving the visitors an important advantage at half-time.
The hosts continued to see more of the ball after the restart but could not turn that control into clear opportunities. Chelsea maintained their shape and waited for another opening before extending their advantage in the 70th minute.
Attah Agyei supplied the second goal, putting Berekum Chelsea firmly in control and leaving Heart of Lions with a difficult task in the closing stages.
The match statistics highlighted the difference between possession and effectiveness. Heart of Lions had 70 per cent of the ball and won 11 corners, while Chelsea recorded 30 per cent possession and one corner.
Despite having fewer attacking opportunities, Berekum Chelsea were more clinical in front of goal and held on to complete a significant away result.
The defeat was Heart of Lions’ second in a row. They will have the opportunity to respond in their next match when they travel to face Bibiani Gold Stars.
Berekum Chelsea moved up to seventh in the league table, overtaking Heart of Lions as a result of the victory. They will next host Samartex as they attempt to build on their breakthrough away performance.
Fuseini Zackaria was named Man of the Match for his contribution to Chelsea’s important win.
