Frank Lampard says Brandon Thomas-Asante’s rise from non-league football to the Premier League shows what can be achieved through determination, discipline and a commitment to improvement.
The Coventry City manager has pointed to the Ghana international as an example for players in the lower divisions, highlighting the hard work and strong mentality that have shaped the forward’s career.
Thomas-Asante began with National League clubs Ebbsfleet United and Sutton United before joining Salford City. He established himself in League Two at Salford, earning a move to West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.
His progress continued with Coventry City and a move to the Premier League, a development which has impressed Lampard. The manager believes Thomas-Asante has demonstrated that he is capable of competing at the highest level.
“Yeah, I think he does,” Lampard said when asked whether Thomas-Asante looked like a Premier League player.
Lampard said the striker’s approach has been crucial to his development, particularly his dedication in training and desire to prove himself.
“He’s got this real hunger to show that he believes he deserves to be here,” Lampard said.
The Coventry manager also believes Thomas-Asante has the attributes required to operate in the top flight. He highlighted the forward’s physical strength, anticipation and ability to hold up the ball as qualities that can benefit the team.
Lampard’s assessment reflects his confidence in the Ghanaian forward, whose route through the English leagues has given him the experience and resilience required to compete at a higher level.
Thomas-Asante’s career offers a clear example to players outside the professional game that persistence, discipline and continued development can lead to opportunities at the top of football.
