The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is considering appointing Kim Lars Bjorkegren as interim coach of the Black Stars for next month’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, according to local reports.
The Black Queens head coach is reportedly being lined up to take charge of Ghana’s two Group C fixtures against Somalia on November 11 and 15. Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko are expected to assist him if the proposed arrangement goes ahead.
The move follows a difficult opening to Ghana’s qualification campaign, with the Black Stars losing consecutive matches against Cote d’Ivoire and The Gambia. Those results led to the departure of Carlos Queiroz and left the GFA looking for a new permanent head coach.
A five-member committee, led by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, is responsible for finding Queiroz’s successor. The association had set October 15 as the deadline for appointing a new coach, but Bjorkegren could reportedly oversee the team on a temporary basis while the search continues.
Bjorkegren already has experience of working within the Black Stars set-up. The Swedish coach previously served as an assistant before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but later returned his attention to the Black Queens after Queiroz put together his own technical team.
His possible move to the men’s national side could create a scheduling issue for the GFA. The Black Queens are also preparing for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying play-offs, which are due to begin on November 28.
The GFA has not confirmed the reports. Bjorkegren is nevertheless the latest coach to be linked with the vacant Black Stars position as Ghana attempts to recover from its poor start and revive its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.
