Tanzania have confirmed they will play Ghana in an international friendly during the September international window as both teams prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The fixture between the Taifa Stars and the Black Stars is scheduled to follow the countries’ opening qualifying matches and is expected to be part of an extended programme of international football for both sides.
Ghana will begin their qualification campaign with a high-profile meeting against Cote d’Ivoire. They will then return home to host Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium in their second Group fixture.
Carlos Queiroz’s team are expected to face Tanzania after those matches, with the Taifa Stars among the three co-hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Kenya and Uganda are the other host nations for the tournament.
Tanzania will also have their own qualifying commitments before taking on Ghana. They are due to play Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar in their opening fixtures.
The Taifa Stars have already named their squad for the forthcoming matches. BK Hacken midfielder Sabri Kondo has been recalled to the national team, while Bernard Kamungo has also been selected for the September fixtures.
Ghana’s preparations are being overseen by Queiroz, whose position as Black Stars manager was recently confirmed by the Ghana Football Association. The Portuguese coach guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz is expected to announce his squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in the coming weeks.
The Black Stars could also play another friendly later this month, with reports indicating that Egypt may be their opponents. That possible fixture would form part of Queiroz’s preparations for Ghana’s upcoming competitive matches.
The meeting with Tanzania will therefore give both teams an opportunity to continue their planning after their initial qualification assignments. For Tanzania, the match comes as they prepare for a tournament they will co-host with Kenya and Uganda, while Ghana will use the international programme as part of their wider preparations under Queiroz.
The September fixture is the latest confirmed meeting between the two nations as they turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Both sides will first focus on their respective qualifying games before meeting in the friendly.
