Tanzania will play Ghana in an international friendly during the September international window, shortly after both nations open their campaigns to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Taifa Stars have confirmed the fixture as part of an extended international break, which will also feature the first round of qualifying matches for the continental tournament.
Ghana are due to begin their qualification campaign against Cote d’Ivoire before hosting Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. Carlos Queiroz’s side are then expected to meet Tanzania in the friendly.
The match will provide both teams with additional preparation after their opening competitive fixtures. Tanzania will start their own qualifying schedule against Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar.
Tanzania will co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Kenya and Uganda. Their participation as one of the host nations places added attention on their preparations, although they will also take part in the qualifying programme.
The Taifa Stars have already announced their squad for the September fixtures. Sabri Kondo, who plays for BK Hacken, has been recalled, while Bernard Kamungo has also been selected.
Ghana’s squad has yet to be named. The Ghana Football Association recently confirmed that Queiroz would remain as head coach after the Portuguese guided the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz is expected to announce his squad for the September matches in the coming weeks. The Ghana manager will oversee the team’s opening qualification fixtures before the proposed meeting with Tanzania.
Ghana are also believed to be arranging another international friendly against Egypt later this month as part of their preparations.
The September window will therefore combine competitive and preparatory matches for the Black Stars. Their immediate focus will be on the meeting with Cote d’Ivoire and the home game against Gambia, while the Tanzania fixture is expected to follow those matches.
For Tanzania, the first priority will be their games against Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar. Their squad already includes the returning Kondo and Kamungo, with the Ghana friendly set to offer a further test during a busy period for the Taifa Stars.
The meeting between Tanzania and Ghana has been confirmed by the Tanzanian side, although the report does not specify a venue or exact date for the friendly.
