Real Madrid’s impressive scoring record in Friday night La Liga matches will be tested by Real Betis, who welcome the Spanish champions with strong home form but an away record that has recently dipped.
The two sides meet at Real Betis on Friday evening in the fourth round of La Liga, with both teams carrying notable statistical trends into the fixture.
According to Opta, Real Madrid have scored in each of their past 10 La Liga matches played on a Friday, their longest such run in the competition. That sequence consists of seven wins and three draws and began with a 3-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna in 2002.
However, their overall results away from home have been less convincing in recent months. Real Madrid have lost three of their last eight away league matches, alongside four wins and one draw. That is more defeats than they suffered across their previous 17 away games in La Liga, a run in which they recorded 12 victories, three draws and two losses.
Real Betis, meanwhile, have built a particularly strong record in Friday fixtures. They are unbeaten in their last 18 La Liga matches played on that day, winning 11 and drawing seven. It is their longest unbeaten sequence in the competition based on a specific day of the week.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have also avoided defeat in their last 12 home league matches, winning seven and drawing five. They have won their past four matches at home and are now seeking a fifth consecutive home victory or better in La Liga for the first time since October 2022, when they put together a six-match winning run.
Real Madrid can point to the early-season form of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe as a reason for optimism. Bellingham has scored twice and provided two assists, while Mbappe has scored four goals. They are the first Real Madrid pair since the 2018-19 season to each contribute to four goals across the team’s opening three La Liga matches of a campaign. Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema achieved the same feat that season, with four goal contributions apiece.
Real Betis forward Cucho Hernandez has also found the net against Real Madrid recently. He has scored in two of the last four La Liga matches against them in which he started. His first came for Huesca in March 2019, followed by another for his current club in January this year.
Pellegrini’s personal record against Real Madrid is mixed. In 27 La Liga meetings with them, the Chilean manager has recorded four wins, 11 draws and 12 defeats. The 11 draws are his highest total against any single opponent in the competition, matching his record against Sevilla.
