Gabriel Jesus made his first appearance at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Wednesday, one day after the club officially announced his arrival from Arsenal.
The Brazil forward has signed a three-season contract with Barcelona, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2029. Spanish reports say the deal is worth an initial €10m, with a further €5m available in add-ons.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Jesus reported to the Joan Gamper training complex on Wednesday morning and worked separately from the rest of the squad.
His first opportunity to be included in a Barcelona matchday squad could come on Sunday, when the Catalan side travel to Mestalla to face Valencia in the fourth round of La Liga.
However, any decision over whether Jesus makes his Barcelona debut will rest with manager Hansi Flick. The German coach will assess the striker’s physical readiness before deciding whether he is needed for the game.
Jesus’ arrival gives Barcelona another attacking option as Flick prepares for the trip to Valencia. His involvement will depend on how quickly he can adapt after completing his move and whether the coaching staff believe he is ready to contribute.
The forward’s transfer was formally confirmed on Tuesday, with his contract set to run through the end of June 2029. Barcelona are reported to have agreed a €10m fee with Arsenal, while the deal could rise by another €5m through performance-related variables.
His first session at the club’s training base came the following morning, although he trained alone rather than joining the main group. That means Flick must decide whether to select him immediately or wait until the Brazilian has had more time to prepare with his new team-mates.
Barcelona will visit Valencia’s Mestalla on Sunday in their fourth La Liga fixture of the campaign. The match represents the earliest possible occasion for Jesus to make his first appearance for the club, but his inclusion is not guaranteed.
Flick’s final decision will be guided by the player’s readiness and the team’s tactical requirements for the match. For now, Jesus has completed his first step as a Barcelona player by beginning work at the Joan Gamper facilities, with attention now turning to whether he will be involved against Valencia.
