Derby County have confirmed the deadline-day signing of Ghana international Mohammed Fuseini, who joins from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan.
The 24-year-old gives manager John Eustace another attacking option, having shown he can operate across the front line as well as on either flank. His arrival strengthens Derby’s attacking group with a player who has experience in domestic leagues across Europe and in UEFA club competitions.
Fuseini began his football education at the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana before moving to Europe in February 2022, when he joined Austrian side Sturm Graz.
He made 27 first-team appearances for Sturm Graz and was part of the squad during the 2023-24 campaign, when the club won the Austrian Bundesliga. That season also included a six-month loan spell with Danish Superliga club Randers.
His performances in Denmark helped attract the attention of Union Saint-Gilloise, who brought him to Belgium after his time with Randers. Fuseini spent his first two seasons with the Brussels-based club collecting major honours, winning both the Belgian Pro League and the Belgian Cup.
The Ghanaian has also built up substantial European experience. He has played 12 times in the UEFA Europa League, with those appearances including matches against Lazio, Roma and Ajax.
Fuseini has featured seven times in UEFA Champions League competition as well, facing Bayern Munich, PSV and Atalanta during his European career. Those matches have provided him with experience against some of the continent’s most established clubs before his move to Derby County.
At international level, Fuseini has been recognised by Ghana and has won two caps for his country. His ability to play in several attacking positions was a key feature of his background as he developed from the Right to Dream Academy through club football in Austria, Denmark and Belgium.
Derby’s new arrival has therefore followed a route that has already taken him from Ghana to three European footballing nations, while also giving him exposure to championship-winning campaigns in Austria and Belgium.
His season-long loan now brings him to Derby County, where he will work under Eustace and add competition to the club’s attacking options. The signing was completed on deadline day and officially confirmed by Derby.
