Ghanaian centre-back Rufai Mohammed has joined Venezia from Swedish club Elfsborg on loan, completing a move that takes the 20-year-old defender to Serie A.
Mohammed’s transfer was completed on 1 September 2026, with the loan agreement running until 30 June 2027. He will return to Elfsborg at the end of the arrangement, which gives Venezia a season-long addition to their defensive options without a permanent transfer being recorded.
The 1.98m defender began his senior career with Ghanaian club Inter Allies after progressing from Allies Youth. He moved to Elfsborg in March 2024 before spending time on loan at Varnamo during the 2024-25 season. Mohammed returned to Elfsborg in November 2025 and remained with the Swedish club until his switch to Italy.
Mohammed has already made an appearance during the 2026-27 campaign, featuring for Elfsborg in the Svenska Cupen. He started the match, played the full 90 minutes and scored once, giving him one goal from one appearance in the competition.
His move to Venezia represents a change of league and country for the Ghanaian defender, who has spent his senior career between clubs in Ghana and Sweden. He joins the Italian side with a market value of €350,000 and a contract recorded through June 2027.
Venezia have therefore added a young central defender with experience of Swedish domestic football and a recent competitive appearance to their squad. Mohammed’s arrival also marks his first move to Italy and his first spell in Serie A.
The completed transfer keeps Elfsborg as Mohammed’s parent club, with the defender due to return to Sweden when his loan with Venezia expires on 30 June 2027.
