Asante Kotoko sealed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak in the President’s Cup, with striker Kwame Opoku scoring to seal the comeback victory.
In a charged atmosphere at the Accra Sports Stadium, it was Hearts of Oak who drew first blood when forward Hamza Issah capitalized on a goalkeeping blunder from Kotoko’s Mohammed Camara.
Kotoko levelled the game in the second half with Peter Amidu scoring after 52 minutes.
Two minutes later, Kwame Opoku shot Kotoko ahead to ensure the Porcupine Warriors had successfully turned the game on its head.
Although Hearts of Oak made incursions to get back into the game, Kotoko held out for a 2-1 win.
Hearts came closest to equalising when Emmanuel Amankwah was handed the opportunity to convert a penalty late in the game.
Hid effort went straight at Kotoko’s Camara as the Kumasi-based club extended their unbeaten run against their sworn rivals ti five games.
The latest win means Kotoko are champions of the 2025 President’s Cup.
