Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton has explained Thomas Partey’s absence in Ghana’s 1-1 draw against Angola on Monday.

Partey was a surprise exclusion from Hughton’s starting line-up for the reverse fixture having started the first-leg tie in Kumasi.

The Arsenal midfielder has been a pivotal member of the Black Stars since making his debut in 2016 and has scored 13 goals for the Black Stars in 44 appearances.

Speaking to the press after the game, Hughton stated Partey’s absence was injury-induced.

“Thomas has some small issues, he has some small injury issues and we felt it was too big a risk to start him,” Hughton said.

In a related development, Arsenal’s Correspondent for Goal.com, Charles Watt, disclosed Partey is due at London Colney today for checks after suffering an injury issue for Ghana.

“Partey felt something in his right leg during a training session with his country on Sunday. Sources close to the player insist it is not a hamstring issue and believe he should be fine for Saturday’s game at Emirates Stadium,” Watts stated.

Partey has been a key member of Arsenal’s brilliant season which has seen them close in on a first league title since 2003/04.
